ViperScore breakdown
Should you buy the Akaso EK7000?
The Akaso EK7000 is the $69.99 camera that shows up in every budget search. It shoots 4K30 and 20 MP photos, has electronic stabilization, and ships with two batteries, a wrist remote and a 40 m dive case. It ranks ninth among our ten action cameras and scores below our buy line, mostly because a 2-inch non-touch display and a fixed 170-degree lens make it feel dated next to the V50X. It is a starter camera for a child or a one-time trip, not a serious purchase.
Where it earns its score
- Reliability of 92. The highest Reliability score in the category; it is simple and it keeps working.
- Value of 85 and Satisfaction of 88. Buyers with modest expectations are happy with it.
- Complete kit. Two 1050 mAh batteries, a remote, a case and mounts in the box.
- Built-in Wi-Fi. Transfer clips to a phone without cables.
What to know first
- Features score is 55 and Quality is 62. No touchscreen, 4K capped at 30 fps, basic stabilization and soft low-light video.
- Not waterproof without the case. The body itself is not sealed.
- Warranty is the weakest factor at 55. Standard coverage from a budget brand.
- About 90 minutes per battery. Adequate, and you get two, but the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro runs 4 hours on one.
Our verdict
The Akaso EK7000 scores 74, Buy With Caution. It misses our buy line because Features (55) and Quality (62) are too low, even though owners like it. Spend $30 more on the Akaso V50X (76), which adds a touchscreen and better reliability, or $250 more on the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro (87) for a real camera.
