ViperScore breakdown
Should you buy the Insta360 Ace Pro 2?
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 (Standard Bundle) is the single-lens camera for vloggers. Its 2.5-inch flip-up touchscreen lets you frame yourself from the front, the 1/1.3-inch sensor was co-engineered with Leica, and it shoots 8K30 and 4K60 with a wind guard in the box. At $389.99 it ranks fifth among our ten action cameras. It competes directly with the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro and loses narrowly on reliability and waterproofing, but wins for anyone who talks to the camera.
Where it earns its score
- Flip-up screen. The only camera in our rankings with a screen that flips up for selfie framing.
- 8K30 and a Leica-branded sensor. Quality, Features and Satisfaction all score 88.
- Dual AI chips. A 5 nm AI chip and a separate imaging chip handle noise reduction and low-light processing.
- Wind guard included. Better audio outdoors without an extra purchase.
What to know first
- Waterproof to 12 m bare. Less than the DJI cameras' 20 m, though more than the GoPro's 10 m.
- Reliability scores 80. Lower than the Osmo Action 5 Pro's 89, and the reason it ranks below it.
- Warranty is the weakest factor at 55. Standard one-year coverage.
- Flip screen adds a hinge. One more moving part to mind on a camera meant for abuse.
Our verdict
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 scores 83, a Good Buy. Buy it if you vlog and want the flip-up screen and 8K for $389.99. If you shoot mostly action rather than talking to camera, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro (87, $319.00) is more reliable, more waterproof and cheaper.
