Should you buy the Enphase IQ EV Charger 2?

The Enphase IQ EV Charger 2 exists for one household: the one that already has Enphase microinverters on the roof. For them, green charging that follows solar production and Storm Guard top-ups before bad weather are real features. For everyone else it is an $899 charger that puts out 40A, the same as units a third of the price, which is why it ranks #9 of 10 in our Level 2 EV Chargers list despite the best feature set and longest warranty here.

• Features lead the category at 92. Revenue-grade metering, RFID access control, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and solar-aware scheduling.
• Five-year warranty. The longest in the group, with 24/7 support, and Warranty scores 88.
• Built-in revenue-grade meter. Some utilities require this for time-of-use or rebate programs, and no other charger here includes one.
• Quality 86. UL Listed, ENERGY STAR, indoor and outdoor rated.

What to know first

• Value is the lowest factor at 52. The lowest Value score in the category; you pay double the EVIQO's price for the same 9.6 kW.
• Solar features need Enphase hardware. Without an Enphase system the green charging and Storm Guard functions do nothing.
• Reliability is unproven. A 78 on Reliability reflects a thin review base rather than known faults.
• Heavy. 28.4 lb and 14.5 in tall, larger than most 40A units.
