Amazfit T-Rex 3

Should you buy the Amazfit T-Rex 3?

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is for the hiker or backpacker who wants offline maps, a giant battery, and a 10 ATM case for under $300, and who is fine with a brand that is not Garmin. It ranks fourth of ten at $269.95, one point behind the Instinct 3 AMOLED. It is a big watch at 48 mm and about 68 g, so it suits larger wrists. Rugged buyers on a budget should compare it directly against the Instinct 3.

Where it earns its score

• Value is its top factor. Value scores 89, the highest of its six factors, because you get dual-band GPS, free offline maps, and a 1.5-inch 2,000-nit AMOLED for $269.95.
• Battery that outlasts everything here. A 700 mAh cell rated for up to 27 days of typical use and 180 hours GPS-only.
• Offline maps included. Free downloadable maps, which the Instinct 3 AMOLED at $299 does not have.
• Genuinely rugged. 10 ATM, freediving certified to 45 m, MIL-STD-810G, and an operating range of -22 F to 158 F.

What to know first

• It is large. 48 mm case and roughly 68 g on the wrist. Small-wristed buyers should look at the COROS PACE 4 instead.
• Quality is the weak spot. Quality scores 74 against the Instinct 3's 90; the polymer case with steel bezel does not feel as refined.
• Warranty is the lowest factor. One year with email-only support, scoring 55.
• No ECG or wrist calling. Zepp OS has 170+ sport modes but a thinner third-party app selection than Wear OS.
