Coway Airmega Mighty2
Air purifiers — mid-size mechanical HEPA, Wirecutter top pick · Reviewed by Katie · amazon.com live, Sept 28 2026
Why it scored a 82
At $269.99 the Coway Airmega Mighty2 is the 2026 successor to the AP-1512HH Mighty and already Wirecutter's top pick and HouseFresh's overall best. Quality leads at 90 and Reliability at 94: the ionizer is gone, the pre-filter slides out the front for washing, a laser sensor reads PM1 through PM10, and the filter lasts 12 months with a 3-year warranty. Value sits at 74 and Features at 62 because there is no app or Wi-Fi and the first-year cost of roughly $415 is the highest in the mid-size tier. It is for a buyer who wants the best-tested mechanical HEPA purifier and does not care about smart-home control.

Should you buy the Coway Airmega Mighty2?
The Coway Airmega Mighty2 is the purifier for someone who does not want an app, an ionizer or a Wi-Fi setup, just a well-built mechanical HEPA unit that runs for years. It is Wirecutter's top pick, and its Quality score of 90 is the joint highest in our air purifier group. It ranks fifth of ten. The catch is price: at $269.99 you pay a premium over the Levoit Core 400S for build and warranty rather than features. If you want smart control, the Levoit or Blueair units are better matches.
Where it earns its score
- Build quality. The 90 Quality score reflects a sturdy 15.2 lb body, a slide-out washable pre-filter and a bonded carbon and HEPA filter that lasts 12 months.
- Better sensor than most. The MegaScan laser sensor reads PM1, PM2.5 and PM10, plus a light sensor, driving three Auto levels, Sleep, Eco and Turbo modes.
- Ionizer removed. This generation is purely mechanical, so there is no ozone question at all.
- Three-year warranty. A year longer than Levoit, Winix and the registered Blueair term.
What to know first
- No app, no Wi-Fi. Features is the lowest ViperScore factor at 62. Control is on the unit only, with a 12-hour timer.
- Buttons are not backlit. Minor, but annoying in a dark bedroom.
- Turbo is not quiet. Measured 35.9 dBA in sleep and 56.9 dBA on turbo; official range is 19 to 50 dB.
- You pay for the build. $269.99 buys similar CADR (240 smoke / 242 dust / 249 pollen CFM) to the $189.97 Core 400S, so Value scores just 74.
Our verdict
The Coway Airmega Mighty2 scores 82, a Good Buy. Buy it when you want a durable, ionizer-free purifier with a real warranty and do not care about apps. If $80 matters and you want auto mode you can check from your phone, the Levoit Core 400S is the higher-scoring choice.
