Best-selling smart mid-size, 24,000 ratings · Reviewed by Katie · amazon.com live, Sept 28 2026
Why it scored a 85
At $189.97 the Levoit Core 400S is the mid-size smart True HEPA purifier with 24,800 Amazon ratings at 4.7 stars. Reliability leads at 96 and Satisfaction at 94, and Value holds at 88 on AHAM-verified CADR of 231–259 CFM, a laser PM2.5 sensor with auto mode, a 24 dB sleep mode and roughly $50 replacement filters. Quality sits at 76: the common nit is the bright display ring at night, and the 2-year Levoit warranty keeps Warranty at 66. It is for someone who wants a proven, app-connected purifier for a living room or large bedroom without stepping up to Coway or Alen prices.

Should you buy the Levoit Core 400S?
The Levoit Core 400S is the purifier for a living room, open-plan kitchen or large bedroom where you want the fan to manage itself. It is the best-selling smart mid-size unit on Amazon for a reason: a sensor-driven auto mode, a real app, and AHAM-verified CADR numbers in the 230 to 260 CFM range under $200. It sits at the top of our air purifier rankings. If you only need one small bedroom covered, the cheaper Levoit Core 300 does the job; if odors are the problem, look at the Winix 5510.
Where it earns its score
- Verified numbers. CADR of 231 smoke / 240 dust / 259 pollen CFM is AHAM Verifide, and Levoit rates it for up to 1,733 sq ft in one hour at a single air change.
- Auto mode that works. A PM2.5 laser sensor drives fan speed and a color ring shows air quality, so it ramps up when you cook and settles down on its own.
- Quiet enough for a bedroom. Sleep mode runs at 24 dB, and the VeSync app plus Alexa and Google control come with no subscription.
- Certified across the board. AHAM Verifide, Energy Star and CARB, with an H13 True HEPA layer.
What to know first
- Filter cost adds up. The replacement 3-stage filter runs about $50.
- The display ring is bright at night. Use display-off or sleep mode in a bedroom.
- Warranty is the weakest ViperScore factor. Two years from Levoit, fine but nothing special next to Coway's 3 and 5 year terms.
- Carbon layer is thin. Fine for everyday cooking smells; heavy odor loads favor the Winix 5510's 226 g carbon bed.
Our verdict
The Levoit Core 400S scores 85, a Strong Buy and the highest score in our air purifier group, on reliability, satisfaction and value rather than any single standout spec. Buy it for a mid-size room where you want smart auto mode; choose the Coway Airmega Mighty2 if you prefer a no-Wi-Fi mechanical unit with a 3-year warranty.
