Air purifiers — mid-size smart HEPA for pets/allergies · Reviewed by Katie · amazon.com live, Sept 28 2026
Why it scored a 84
At $169.95 the Levoit Vital 200S is a mid-size smart True HEPA purifier and Wirecutter's 2025–26 runner-up pick. Satisfaction leads at 94 and Reliability at 93, backed by 250 CFM of AHAM-verified CADR, a washable pre-filter that vacuums clean of pet hair, and a front intake that lets it sit flush against a wall. Quality sits at 74 because the bonded filter forces you to replace carbon and HEPA together, carbon capacity is limited for heavy odors, and top speed reaches 57.7 dBA; the 2-year warranty holds Warranty at 66. It is for a pet household that wants app control and strong particle cleaning at home.

Should you buy the Levoit Vital 200S?
If you share a home with a dog or a cat, or you sneeze every spring, the Levoit Vital 200S is the mid-size purifier built for you. Its washable pre-filter catches fur before it reaches the HEPA layer, and the front-facing intake lets the unit sit flush against a wall, which the Core 400S cannot. It ranks second of ten in our air purifier group, one point behind the Core 400S, at a lower price. Skip it if you want the quietest option at top speed; the Blueair 311i Max wins that.
Where it earns its score
- Pet-friendly design. A washable pre-filter takes the hair and dander load, so the bonded HEPA and carbon filter behind it lasts longer.
- Wall-hugging intake. The front intake means you can push it flat against a wall without choking airflow.
- Real-world CADR. Rated 250 CFM, and HouseFresh measured 249 CFM for PM1, about as close to the spec sheet as it gets.
- Full smart feature set. Laser dust sensor, auto mode, sleep mode, timer, display lock, VeSync app and Alexa or Google control, with Energy Star and AHAM Verifide certification.
What to know first
- Loud on high. Official range is 23 to 54 dB, but 57.7 dBA was measured at top speed.
- Filter changes are all-or-nothing. Carbon and HEPA are bonded, so you replace both every 6 to 12 months at about $50, roughly $50 to $100 a year.
- Warranty is the weakest ViperScore factor. Two years of Levoit coverage is standard, not generous.
- It covers less at high ACH. Figure 388 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour; the 1,875 sq ft headline assumes one air change.
Our verdict
The Levoit Vital 200S scores 84, a Good Buy, and it is the better buy than the Core 400S if pet hair is your main problem or your only good spot is against a wall. If you want the higher CADR and a slightly quieter sleep mode for a larger open room, spend the extra $20 on the Core 400S.
