Why it scored a 80
Apple's entry speaker punches well above its size, with computational audio, a Thread border router for Matter and HomeKit, and the temperature and humidity sensors Apple turned on later. Quality and Reliability are high, but the June 2026 price rise to $129 and a widely reported mini 2 coming this fall cap Value.

The Apple HomePod mini is the entry point to Apple's speaker lineup for someone who already owns an iPhone and wants Siri, a Thread border router, and surprisingly full sound in a 3.3-inch sphere. At $129 it is the mid-priced option for HomeKit households, and it ranks seventh among smart speakers. If you can spend $220 more, the full HomePod sounds far better; if you are not on Apple, the Echo Dot Max at $79.99 gives you a hub and more bass.
